  • Our one-year full-time fellowship position is designed to promote the professional development of clinical child psychologists. The training year provides fellows with intensive clinical and supervisory experiences in both inpatient and outpatient mental health services for youth and families.

Fellows receive two hours of supervision from psychology faculty members each week. These supervision sessions focus on fine-tuning and expanding clinical skills in working with children, adolescents, and their families, as well as on ‘supervision of supervision’ issues and professional identity and development. Fellows typically provide two hours of supervision to pre-doctoral interns or practicum students in clinical psychology.

There is also an emphasis on developing leadership skills within multidisciplinary teams. Fellows have the opportunity to enhance their skills in case conceptualization, treatment planning and intervention. Fellows also have the opportunity to work with seriously mentally ill youth and individuals and families who have experienced complex trauma. In addition, fellows are able to identify specific clinical areas in which they would like to broaden or deepen their professional experiences. The supervision and clinical experiences provided are designed to meet the current post-doctoral experience requirements in most states.

Fellows participate in Acute Treatment and Consultation and Liaison Services. In these programs fellows provide services to children and adolescents in the inpatient program. This may include providing individual, group, and/or family therapy. Fellows also provide consultation services to the multidisciplinary care team that include psychiatrists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, clinical social workers, clinical pharmacist, nurses, recreation therapy, occupational therapists, occupational therapists, dietician, and child life services. Fellows participate in daily team meetings, and complex behavior management huddles. Responsibilities may also include conducting brief inpatient psychiatric evaluations of youth referred to the psychiatric inpatient unit.

Fellows provide outpatient services through the VTCC Outpatient Clinic, seeing an average of 8-10 patients per week with diverse presenting concerns. Fellows can also participate in a weekly multifamily DBT skills group.

Postdoctoral Fellows receive an annual stipend of $47, 476 and supervision hours toward licensure. Benefits include generous leave time and options for health and dental insurance. A July 1, 2023 start date is preferred; however, this is negotiable with the possibility of starting between July 1st and August 15th.

Interested applicants must complete all requirements for a doctorate in psychology prior to their start date.
