Early Career Boot Camp
A day-long, interactive workshop intended for postdoctoral fellows and early career faculty & staff
Presenters
Ellen Joseph, PhD - Dr. Ellen Joseph is a licensed Clinical Health Psychologist. Dr. Joseph is the Partnership Liaison for GI Psychology.She received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from University of Denver with an emphasis in Health Psychology and went on to receive training from numerous academic health centers across the country, including Cooper University Health Care in Camden, NJ, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in San Antonio, TX, and Denver Health in Denver, CO. With such a strong foundation in a wide range of integrated healthcare environments, Dr. Joseph brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her care for those struggling with disorders of the gut-brain connection. Dr. Joseph will discuss her experience transitioning into her early career, the factors that influenced her path, and how she has created her ideal personal and professional balance. Her talk will conclude with time to discuss how to apply this approach to your own professional journey.
Sarah R. Fishman, PhD - Dr. Fishman is a licensed clinical psychologist with specialization in health psychology and psycho-oncology. Since completing a fellowship at Cooper in 2023, Dr. Fishman has joined the faculty and continued her work in oncology and on the general Consultation-Liaison Service. Along with provision of direct patient care, Dr. Fishman works alongside Dr. Fizur in the postdoctoral residency program. She provides supervision to externs, interns, and postdoctoral fellows on the consultation-liaison service. She is involved in quality improvement, development, and research as a member of Cooper’s Improvement of Care at End-of-Life Committee and serves on the general and ambulatory bioethics committees. She is a member of the Association for Psychologists in Academic Health Centers, Society of Behavioral Medicine, and American Psychological Association. Dr. Fishman will discuss her experience remaining in academic medicine and building out not only her own burgeoning clinical practice as a leader in at the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, but also her role as director of a growing fellowship program and the many other professional experiences she has crafted for herself. Dr. Fishman will close her talk with a discussion of how you, too, can take this approach to building your early career trajectory.
Sarah J. Roane, PhD, Lauren E. Szkodny, PhD, Sivan Rotenberg, PhD, Mary Kay Jankowski, PhD - Building off their well attended and will received session at APAHC 2023 entitled “Advocacy, Allyship, and Advancement: Recognizing and Creating Opportunities for Psychologist Advocacy in Academic Health Centers,” Drs. Roane, Szkodny, Rotenberg, and Jankowski will discuss with our early career colleagues their lessons learned in this area and how to use their experiences to aid in your own efforts to advancing your influence in academic medicine through becoming leaders in these areas that psychologists are uniquely trained and educated to contribute to.
CV Consultation
We will be continuing the "CV Consult" in Florida and want to invite you to participate. The CV Consult is intended for interns, fellows, and early career psychologists who are seeking feedback about their CV and steps to facilitate promotion and general career advancement. The event will allow for 30 minute consults which are scheduled over the lunch break on Friday. If you wish to be included please check the approbate box below. Appointments will be offered on a first come, first serve basis. If we are not able to accommodate your request at the APAHC 2025 conference we will be keeping a list of those who apply and will give them priority at future events that we plan to hold at the APA convention and future APAHC conferences.
