Nominees should be exceptional senior psychologists who have made substantial contributions to psychology in academic health centers across their careers.
Nominees for the Outstanding Student Contributions to Psychology in Academic Health Centers should be exemplary graduate students or doctoral interns whose work in medical school and academic health care settings has modeled developing excellence in enhancing the role of psychologists in education, research, and/or clinical care.
Nominees for the Outstanding Early Career Psychologist Contributions to Psychology in Academic Health Centers should be exemplary post-doctoral fellows or psychologists less than 10 years post-degree whose work in medical school and academic health care settings has demonstrated excellence in enhancing the role of psychologists in education, research, and/or clinical care.
Nominees for the Outstanding Mid-Career Psychologist Contributions to Psychology in Academic Health Centers should be exemplary psychologists between 10-20 years post-degree whose work in medical school and academic health care settings has demonstrated excellence in enhancing the role of psychologists in education, research, and/or clinical care.

The national award, given annually by the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, honors caregivers “who embody the characteristics of compassionate care, which include effective communication, emotional support, mutual trust and respect, the involvement of families in health care decisions, and treating patients as people, not just illnesses.”
APAHC member Dr. Irma Corral has been named East Carolina University assistant dean for diversity and inclusion for the Brody School of Medicine. In her new role, the associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine will oversee an office that aims to help create diverse, inclusive environments for learners and employees at the medical school through research, programming and support.
